John Ellis & Double Wide opened the Saturday Newport Jazz Festival 2012 on the main stage. My driving obligations with the festival had me running on Saturday but I shot what I was able while on site. The Quad Stage featured Pedrito Martinez and his group which was outstanding. There's a downloadable link to that set on NPR music. Christian McBride followed on the Harbor Stage. I then returned to the Quad Stage for Jack DeJohnette, a set that was unique with a band of all stars. The Harbor Stage then featured a set entitled 3 Clarinets. Before returning to the main stage I stopped back at the Quad to hear a little more of DeJohnette. The day finished with the closer, Pat Metheny, on the main stage. They only allowed for photography during his 3rd song and there was a crush of cameras. I chose to stand fast as opposed to looking for other angles given the sea of humanity.
