Little Feat 50th Anniversary - Highlights
On March 8, 2019 I accepted a wonderful invitation to join a good friend at a concert at The Beacon Theater in NYC. This was not a typical concert but rather the start of Little Feat's 50th Anniversary Tour. The program began with a warm up by The Midnight Ramble Band, Levon Helm's Band which features his daughter Amy who has kept the group and the Ramble active following the death of her father, Levon Helm; drummer, vocalist and actor who was an original member of The Band (Bob Dylan's backing band). The musicianship and catalogue of the group was exemplary. Larry Campbell, band leader, had played with Dylan for close to a decade and had worked with Levon in the later years of The Band. In addition to Amy Helm the group features Campbell's wife, Teresa Williams, Brian Mitchell on keyboards and vocals and Jim Weider on guitar and vocals (also from the latest iteration of the Band). This concert also featured the Midnight Ramble Horns with special guest Blue Lou Marini.
Following the Midnight Ramble Band and a brief break, Little Feat launched into their set featuring their classic hits, one after the next. After several pieces Feat invited Larry Campbell to sit in as well as Brian Mitchell. Shortly afterward another special guest was announced -- Warren Haynes! Haynes kicked it up a notch with some 3 way guitar solos with Tackett & Barrere. The program was very entertaining and left the audience very satisfied.
This was a great show for kicking off the big anniversary tour. I remain thankful to one of my US Navy mates for exposing me to Little Feat in 1974 and to my friend for exposing me to this anniversary show. I am a Blessed guy. Thank you!
