Anders Osborne & Jackie Greene with Jonathan Sloane Highlights
The Greenwich Odeum hosted three highly accomplished male singer songwriters in a collaborative presentation on May 21, 2022. Each artist has honed their craft and is individually capable of fronting their own show. This amalgam proved very interesting and enjoyable. The artists include: Anders Osborne, Jackie Greene and Jonathan Sloane. Anders Osborne is an American singer-songwriter. He tours solo and with a band, and often plays in North Mississippi Osborne (N.M.O), a group formed by Osborne and North Mississippi Allstars. Jackie Greene is an American singer-songwriter and musician. He has a solo career and became a member of The Black Crowes in 2013, though the band broke up in 2015 before he could contribute any studio work. Jonathan Sloane is a multi-talented, lifelong musician, guitarist and lyricist based in Rockville, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC. His compositions, tone and lyrical lead guitar playing are deeply rooted in the blues; expanding into R&B, rock 'n' roll, funk and soul.
The program began with Sloane playing some original compositions solo. After several numbers he invited the others to join him for a few songs collaboratively. Then there was an intermission. On return, all three players again took the stage but the songs offered were now penned by the latter, Osborne and Greene. There appeared to be an alternating approach to the selected material. I was impressed that these pieces had been well prepared by the threesome meaning that they didn’t “mail it in”. The arrangements were tight, the dynamics very evident and the 3 part harmonies very well executed. The audience was very familiar with their material and enthusiastic with strong vocal support in the choruses. The set offered a mostly mellow groove with some up numbers that had a deep palpable funky core.
I am very appreciative of the fine folks at The Greenwich Odeum who have afforded me the opportunity to collect images celebrating these musical moments. I encourage my friends who see my photography to check out a show at the Odeum. It’s very accessible from most anywhere. Cheers!
