Arlo Guthrie' "Alice's Restaurant Tour" Highlights
Arlo Guthrie with Special Guest Sarah Lee Guthrie provided a wonderful night of entertainment at the Greenwich Odeum on October 24, 2018.
Arlo opened with a half dozen songs and then introduced Sarah Lee who played a half dozen as well with Arlo joining her on the last piece half way through.
Following a break, Arlo returned with Alice's Restaurant coupled with many scenes from the movie projected behind him in PERFECT Synch. This collaboration with the video was very impressive to me as several of the lines he sang live were perfectly matched with the young Arlo on the screen. Brilliant!
The program closed with another half dozen pieces with Sarah Lee rejoining Arlo. Arlo stated that he caught a lot of flak for not playing This Land is Your Land, thus he played to satisfy as well as a piece written by Woody which Arlo crafted a song around.
I have seen Arlo many times and this program was perhaps the best as it utilized all the great songs, terrific arrangements with a cracker jack band. The lighting was brilliant and the sound was perfect. I strongly encourage folks to catch a show at The Odeum. See their calendar here: http://www.greenwichodeum.com/calendar/
