Darlene Love Highlights
Darlene Love Highlights
On December 6, 2018 the Greenwich Odeum was graced with greatness. While contributing to the musical landscape that we have all enjoyed since the early 60s, Darlene Love's current performance is state-of-the-art. Beginning as a back up vocalist and featured in the Oscar winning film, 20 Feet From Stardom, she recorded with the Righteous Brothers, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Elvis and many more. She had her first hit as a lead vocalist with The Crystals singing "He's A Rebel", written by Gene Pitney.
In 1995 Love won the Rhythm and Blues Foundation's Pioneer Award. On March 14, 2011, Love was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with a speech by Bette Midler who said "she changed my view of the world, listening to those songs, you had to dance, you had to move, you had to keep looking for the rebel boy." Near tears, Love noted that she will turn 70 later this year, and thanked Spector "for recognizing my talent and making me the main voice in his Wall of Sound."
Darlene Love offered a stellar performance and sang with authority and wonderful stage presence. At 77, she shows no signs of stopping. Her accompanying bandmates were excellent across the board and her sax man has been with her for 30 years. The backup vocalists were exceptional.
Another feather in the cap for the Greenwich Odeum bringing world class entertainment right next door. Check out their calendar: http://www.greenwichodeum.com/calendar/
