Don McLean at The Greenwich Odeum
Don McLean at The Greenwich Odeum
Don McLean dropped into The Odeum on Friday, April 13, 2018 for a night of musical memories with an awesome band of Nashville cats. McLean was comfortable and appreciative of the audience's reception. He sang covers from Buddy Holly to Elvis and Roy Orbison (Crying - no easy feat!). As he saw some folks walking the aisle for a beverage he lamented that he wishes he had one - there were many offers. He responded with a couple songs that would make you WANT to drink. I told my friend that I wished he'd sing "The Grave" just to cheer us up.
Everyone was on their feet for American Pie and the show wound down with Vincent, whew, what a song. I really enjoyed the show finding him in strong voice, even more memorable than my experience of him 20 years ago. I'd recommend seeing him if you have interest in his music. He noted that he's 72 and seemed very proud of the fact that he needs no meds for anything. "I'm Scottish", he said, owing his good fortune to his genes.
