A Walk About Newport During COVID-19 Pandemic
A Walk About Newport During COVID-19 Pandemic
In early February there was news of a virus sickening and killing people in China. As days passed it became apparent that this illness was moving across continents and early cases were reported in America. Concerns arose as cases became local and on March 8, 2020, the Governor of RI declared a State of Emergency. I followed protocols and did not leave the house except for a couple safe walks. After driving round trip to NC in 22 hours to get my wife home from Florida on Mar 28 we have stayed largely home based with no outside contact except to shop for food. The exception has been to walk with masks at the ready. I began documenting the curious emptiness on March 14 and have kept a passing log of some of the wonderful things I’ve seen on our walks around this incredible little city. The history that is all around us, the architecture and the ocean all make for a wonderful escape from this altered reality. I invite viewers to escape with me as this gallery grows until the pandemic is also history.
