The Trinity Church, built in 1726 by Anglicans has begun to recognize veteran by putting flags on their graves. "These veterans are mostly from the Revolutionary War - and they fought on both sides", according to Charlotte Johnson who manages guided tours of the church. John Hattendorf, church historian identified the graves and flags were placed for viewing from Nov 7 - Nov 14, 2021.
British flags are seen on 4 graves and seven Patriots who fought on the American side are honored with Betsy Ross flags. Admiral de Ternay's graves is marked with the French Royalist Naval flag along with two French officers whose graves were recently rededicated after their original markers from 1780 were lost.
Current day American flags are placed on six Naval and Marine veterans' graves - 3 died between 1807-1845 and three others between 1992-2019.
